GOING GREEN 2

Replace and Save
(google images)

Out with the old and in with the new and energy saving fluorescent light bulbs. Although these fluorescent light bulbs are a bit pricier, you will still save more in the long run. An 18-watt fluorescent light bulb, over its lifetime, uses far less electricity than a 75-watt incandescent bulb.

TURN IT OFF & UNPLUG IT

We’ve all experience being annoyed with our parents with their constant reminders to turn off unused appliances and to unplug the cords as well. But the truth of the matter is, this is why most of our electrical bills go up. Even though appliances are turned off, if they are still plugged, they still use up electricity. So let’s not be brats anymore and do as our folks say. It’ll keep us all safe and more environmentally helpful.

DITCH THE DISHWASHER

This might not be applicable to all, but using a dishwasher creates more than the needed heat to actually dry the dishes. So go away with yet another electrical appliance and save more money and energy by simply letting your dishes air dry after washing them. Placing them on a rack which can catch the dripping water is also a very efficient idea.

REPAIR or REPLACE

Did you know that a leaky faucet wastes up to 30,000 gallons of water a year? Call a professional to repair or replace the leak problem at once, and save the earth and yourself from a lot of cash.

LAPTOP over DESKTOP

If you’re just about to buy one and you’re still a bit torn, choose the laptop. And if you already own both, use the laptop more often than the desktop. Laptops draw only 15 to 25 watts during regular use compared to the 150 watts used by a conventional desktop.
